Update On the Situation in Las’anod

 

 

Hargeisa, Somaliland, February 21, 2023 – The Government of the Republic of Somaliland fully supports the Peace Mission that Somaliland's traditional leaders have voluntarily established headed to the Sool Region, and we are hopeful that a resolution to the tensions in the city of Las'anod will be reached.

 

This morning, militia groups launched a large-scale attack on the Republic of Somaliland’s National Army bases in Las'anod, directly violating the ceasefire. The National Army continues to adhere to the ceasefire and defended themselves against the attack.

 

The government of the Republic of Somaliland reiterates its call for the ceasefire and requests that the Peace Mission in the Sool Region be respected and unharmed.
