Political Affairs Department
Introduction
The Political Affairs department facilitates all communications with foreign governments, international organizations and agencies working in areas of Somaliland’s political interests for purposes of negotiations and policy development. It is also in charge of monitoring political developments around the world. That department has political desks that are responsible for establishing, improving, and promoting bilateral, diplomatic, economic, and social relations with other countries.

 

These desks cover the following geographical areas, Africa, the Arab States, Middle East, Asia, Europe, North America, and Australia. This department is responsible for regular collaboration with foreign missions’ offices but is also leads communications with Somaliland’s twenty-two mission offices abroad.

 

The department is dedicated to the following Core Functions:

  • Strategic Recognition Advocacy: We design and execute the national roadmap for formal international recognition, elevating Somaliland’s status within the global political architecture through targeted diplomatic campaigns.
  • Bilateral & Multilateral Management: We act as the gateway for state-to-state relations and engagement with international organizations, negotiating strategic agreements and fostering partnerships across Africa, the Middle East, and beyond.
  • Diplomatic Intelligence & Oversight: We serve as the central hub for our overseas missions, synthesizing real-time political reporting into actionable intelligence to facilitate evidence-based decision-making at the highest levels of government.
  • Regional Political Analysis: We provide specialized monitoring of geopolitical trends, ensuring that Somaliland’s foreign policy is responsive to the shifting dynamics within the African Union, the Arab World, and the broader Horn of Africa.
  • Stability & Geopolitical Risk Assessment: We protect national security by identifying external threats and regional shifts, providing "Early Warning" analysis to mitigate the impact of external volatility on Somaliland’s internal stability.
  • Regional Peace & Security Engagement: We position Somaliland as a reliable partner in the international community by coordinating diplomacy related to maritime security, conflict resolution, and regional cooperation.
