The Government of the Republic of Somaliland Reiterates its Firm Opposition to any External Interference.
[Hargeisa, Somaliland – January 22, 2024] The Government of the Republic of Somaliland highly regards its historical ties with Egypt and acknowledges Egypt's concerns regarding stability in the Horn of Africa region. We share a common interest in peaceful and productive relations across the continent.
In light of the recent developments, we would like to reiterate Somaliland's unwavering commitment to resolving regional matters through dialogue and cooperation. Nevertheless, given the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Republic of Somaliland and Ethiopia, we want to reiterate our firm opposition to any external interference.
As a sovereign nation, the Republic of Somaliland respects all diplomatic engagements within the established international framework. We encourage all interested parties to focus on promoting regional stability and constructive partnerships. In this spirit, we encourage Egypt to redirect its diplomatic efforts to address ongoing conflicts with its immediate neighbors such as Sudan, Libya, and Gaza. These areas are currently grappling with significant challenges, and we believe Egypt’s constructive engagement could substantially contribute to lasting peace and security.
The Government of the Republic of Somaliland will continue to engage in diplomatic discussions and collaboration with all countries, to promote peace and development in the Horn of Africa. We believe that fostering cooperation will significantly improve the region's overall stability and pave the way for a more prosperous future, thereby benefiting the well-being of our interconnected communities.
We recognize Egypt's understanding of the nuances of regional relationships and firmly believe that our combined efforts will have a lasting impact on regional prosperity.
The Government of the Republic of Somaliland looks forward to sustaining constructive engagement, based on mutual respect and common interests with Egypt and other collaborators to improve the well-being of our shared geopolitical environment.
