February 10, 2023 – Ainabo, Somaliland - The Government of the Republic of Somaliland calls for an immediate, unconditional ceasefire in Las’anod. The Somaliland Government is committed to the restoration of peace in Las’anod and notes a significant reduction of violence over the last 48 hours.
The Republic of Somaliland was built on principles of peace and democracy. Furthermore, peace talks led by traditional leaders have played a crucial role in Somaliland's three-decade-long stability and have served as a successful model for resolving disagreements in Somaliland. In the days ahead, the Government of Somaliland will closely collaborate with the Las’anod community and traditional leaders to de-escalate the confrontations and resume dialogue.
Finally, the Somaliland government reaffirms its commitment to continue providing all basic necessities such as food, water, and medical equipment to the people of Las’anod in coordination with local and international humanitarian organizations.
